DETAILS
Historians have come to know the lives of the enslaved by exploring the things they made and used, the stories they remembered and told, and the aesthetics they prized and displayed. Over the past 50 years especially, the study of slavery has been transformed by findings from archaeology, folklore, linguistics, musicology, and more, and the use of such findings has made the enslaved not only more knowable but also gives them greater voice in their history. In his talk Dr. Randall Miller will make reference to some of the ways the new understandings of the world(s) the slaves made might apply to Pennsbury and slavery in William Penn’s day and after.
